Frequently Asked Questions
Here are a few frequently asked questions about visiting Zermatt, Switzerland:
Is It Worth Staying In Zermatt?
Yes, absolutely! It is so worth spending a few days in Zermatt!
Zermatt was one of those places that took us by surprise. While it is a very popular and touristy mountain destination, we had no big expectations for it.
We ended up having a great time in Zermatt hiking to alpine lakes, taking mountain trains, renting a mountain cart, kickbike, and exploring the Old Town. There is so much more to see & do in Zermatt than we expected, and we wish we could have designated more than 3 days to stay in this beautiful Swiss town.

Is It Easy Getting To Zermatt?
One of the most challenging parts about visiting Zermatt is getting there. Zermatt is a car-free town so every visitor has to leave their car in Täsch and take a 15-minute train from Täsch to Zermatt. The train departs every 20 minutes so they run very frequently making this transfer as streamlined as possible.
Once you arrive in downtown Zermatt, you will need to walk to your hotel. We booked accommodations on the outskirts of Zermatt so it took us additional 15 minutes to walk to our hotel from the train station.
Many hotels offer shuttle service which is something I highly recommend arranging before your trip, especially if you plan to travel with multiple luggage cases.

The Five Lakes Hike travels to multiple alpine lakes that are known for their stunning blue and green color. After the hike, we recommend renting mountain carts and kickbikes for an adventurous way down the mountain.
- Gorner Gorge. The Gorner Gorge is a hidden little gem that is a great attraction if you want to escape the crowds. The Gorner Gorge is located on the outskirts of Zermatt and consists of pathways that travel through a large, narrow glacier canyon with a milky blue river at the center of it.
- Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. Here you can take Europe’s highest cable car up to a 360° viewing platform that overlooks 38 alpine peaks. A truly unforgettable experience of a lifetime!
